Ropers are cone-shaped, subterranean aberrations who change their color to blend in with their environment in order to attack from ambush.[1]

Ropers worship Rovagug, whom they consider to be their creator.[2]

Ropers in GolarionEdit

Ropers can be found across vast expanses of underground terrain. An elven geographer, explorer, and bard named Talsindro Yarmaht attempted to map the ropers' territory; the project took him over five centuries. His letters and maps are kept under lock and key at the Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society in Absalom. Rumors claim that anyone who gazes upon the maps suffers incurable and endless bleeding from their eyes, a type of stigmata.

Ropers are found in the Darklands region of Nar-Voth, especially in a large cave called the Endless Gulf. Ropers in the deeper region of Sekamina are known for attacking travelers who are attempting to reach the Dying Sea.

Closer to the surface, ropers are known to live in ice caves in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. They are known locally as the Takers in the Ice, a name which refers to them being blamed for the disappearance of children and young warriors. These abductees sometimes return years after their disappearance, crawling back with few remaining wits or limbs

Although ropers are present in the region, they do not kidnap people from Irrisen. Rumors speculate that this reticence is due to a pact with ice trolls, or it may be due to fear of Baba Yaga and her daughters.[2]
