The hoary muntjac is a carnivorous offshoot of the deer family. This deer adapted to life in the freezing mountains that it calls home in a most unusual way. It is now an effective predator.

From a distance a hoary muntjac could easily be mistaken for a normal mountainous deer. On closer inspection it is clearly not a deer. While its body looks like that of a particularly large, hairy deer its face does not. Instead of a deer's placid face it has a wolf-like muzzle often still red from the blood of its last prey. The muntjac still possesses vestigial horns but they are so small as to be almost unnoticeable beneath the shaggy fur of its head.[1]

Habitat & EcologyEdit

Hoary muntjacs reside high up in the coldest mountains where they are ideally suited. Their feet allow them to cross ice and snow much quicker than most other creatures. They often hunt when the weather is at its most violent, using snow storms to hide their coming. Hoary muntjacs are social creatures and hunt in packs and, though they can survive for short periods on plants, much prefer the taste of flesh.[1]

Hibernal Breath
A hoary muntjac can breathe out a small cone of freezing mist to help subdue its prey.
Track Heat
Hoary muntjacs can perceive a creature's body heat and actually track them by it in cold environments, which is part of the reason they only hunt in freezing mountains.[1]
